Shaarei Tikvah Congregation in Scarsdale, NY will transform into a concert café at 9pm on Saturday May 11, as it presents an evening of Musical Voyages featuring a group of renowned performers: the Cassatt String Quartet, clarinetist Vasko Dukovski, bassist Pablo Aslan, and Shaarei Tikvah’s Cantor Gerald Cohen.
The concert’s theme is voyages, both international and interplanetary, and will featuring tangos by Aslan, klezmer and Romani dances, and two compositions by Cantor Cohen: Preludes and Debka, based on a dance popular in both Israeli and Arab cultures, and Voyagers, a tribute to the interplanetary journey of the Voyager spacecraft on the 40th anniversary of its launch. Premiered at the Hayden Planetarium in 2017, Voyagers focuses on music included on the Voyager Golden Record, a physical disc attached to Voyager for its journey, featuring music and images of the earth. According to composer Cohen: “The composition celebrates humanity’s quest to explore the universe, and the power of music to express the rich emotional and cultural world of human beings.”

- Vasko Dukovski is a New York-based multi-instrumentalist virtuoso and diverse stylistic performer, one of the most-sought-after instrumentalists of his generation.
Argentine-born bassist and composer Pablo Aslan is recognized internationally as one of the leading figures in traditional and contemporary tango.
Gerald Cohen is Shaarei Tikvah’s Cantor and a noted composer, equally at home in the composition of chamber music, choral music, opera, and liturgical music.
